Change Agents and Campaign groups - protective heroes

By Nigel Goddard | Executive Director

From a humble start, just under a year ago, with 2 campaign groups, AusCam's Change Agents have now formed 6 groups, with 4 more in training - and we are set to hit our goal of more than 30 ongoing, active groups by the end of the year - hundreds of voices creating awareness and safety for thousands of their peers.

After joining a Campaign Incubator workshop facilitated by AusCam, seven Change Agents“ formed Safety Ladies Seven” . They have had events to help children learn about ways to be safe from  OCSE, have helped those choldren post safety tips and have created an ongoing campaign through Facebook. They plan to set up reporting and feedback  “safety boxes” in schools, to help girls to report OCSE to authorities

Another  group of 8 Change Agents,  calling themselves  Girls Empowerment Collective, are focussing their campaigns to prevent   predators who are grooming girls.

GSG-Girls Support Girls is a group who aim to challenge the social norms and attitudes that enable OCSE, and cause society to blame the victims, rather than the perpetrators. They want to empower girls to speak up and seek help when they face OCSE, and to educate parents, government and teachers about the seriousness and consequences of this crime. They believe that girls have the right to be safe and respected online, and that no one should ever blame them for the abuse they suffer.

HGC- Help Girl in Cambodia, is another group, who are  committed to stopping sexortion.

a teacher, who we interviewed at a Change Agent event summarised the impact and change they can have, recognising them as everyday heroes who inspire us to heelp others :  “I think it’s a part of our life to protect girls and young women from OCSE. It’s not normal for it to become an issue that can destroy a girl’s life. As a teacher, I will share this knowledge with my students, like the real hero does.”
