Lack of Wheelchairs Keeps Disabled Women Isolated

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you for supporting the Provide 200 Wheelchairs to Disabled Women & Girls project. We sincerely appreciate your generosity and concern for women and girls whose daily lives are affected by limited mobility.

Across many rural and low-income communities, women and girls with physical disabilities face enormous challenges moving from place to place. Without wheelchairs, some depend entirely on relatives for transportation, while others remain confined to their homes. This limits access to education, healthcare, social activities, and opportunities that many people take for granted.

We are grateful for the donations received so far. However, the amount currently available is not sufficient to begin implementation of the project. Additional support is needed before wheelchair procurement, beneficiary assessments, transportation, assembly, and distribution activities can commence.

This project aims to provide 200 wheelchairs to women and girls who have limited mobility and cannot afford these essential devices. Beneficiaries will be identified through community outreach and needs assessments to help ensure support reaches those facing the greatest barriers. Each wheelchair will be selected to match the user's needs and local environment.

A wheelchair is more than a mobility device. It can help a girl attend school regularly, enable a woman to visit health facilities independently, and allow beneficiaries to participate more fully in family and community life. Greater mobility can also improve confidence and reduce dependence on others for daily activities.

We remain committed to implementing this project and continue working toward the resources needed to begin the first phase. As progress is made, we look forward to sharing updates, photographs, and stories from the women and girls who will benefit from this support.

Thank you for helping remove mobility barriers and create greater opportunities for women and girls living with disabilities.

Warm regards,

Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
