Challenge

In Indonesia, diarrhea is the second leading cause of death in children. This reality is directly connected to a lack of safe drinking water. Because most people can't afford bottled water, they must boil their drinking water. Boiling water takes time and uses expensive resources such as gas and wood. And unfortunately, due to cross-contamination and improper boiling times, almost half of the water is still unsafe to drink after boiling.

Solution

In order to help meet the urgent need for safe and affordable drinking water, Pelita Indonesia is providing simple ceramic water filters to families in greatest need. The filters we make and distribute turn contaminated water into safe drinking water. Each filter will supply an entire household with safe clean drinking water for 2 years. Additionally, every recipient receives hygiene and sanitation education, as well as in-home follow-up to ensure proper use and cleaning of the filter.

Long-Term Impact

Through this project, 600 families in need will receive a ceramic water filter, providing access to life-saving clean drinking water for up to 3,000 people. These families will no longer have to spend the time and costly resources boiling water. They will also experience improved health and greater quality of life! Thank you for your generosity in providing clean water for families in need in West Java indonesia!
