Rural Patients Struggle to Reach Clinics

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you to those who have shown interest and support for the Provide Bicycle Ambulance for Rural Emergency Care project. The kindness expressed toward this initiative is greatly appreciated. At the moment, the contributions received are still too small to begin producing and distributing the bicycle ambulances planned for the participating communities.

In many remote villages across Nigeria, access to emergency transport remains a serious challenge. Roads are often narrow, rough, or completely absent, making it difficult for vehicles to reach these areas. When medical emergencies occur, families sometimes carry patients on foot or use wheelbarrows to travel long distances to the nearest clinic. These delays can place lives at risk, especially for pregnant women in labor and children with severe illness.

Without reliable transport, many residents arrive at health facilities too late to receive timely treatment. This situation contributes to preventable deaths that could be avoided if patients could reach care quickly.

This project plans to supply 50 bicycle ambulances to 50 rural communities where conventional ambulances cannot operate. Each unit will include a stretcher and protective cover designed to transport patients safely. Local riders will be trained to respond quickly to emergency calls, while community health workers will help coordinate the service and maintain the equipment.

With these bicycle ambulances available, communities will have a practical way to move patients to clinics more quickly. This simple transport solution can make a meaningful difference in places where roads and vehicles are scarce.

The encouragement already received means a great deal to the team working on this initiative. Continued support from people who believe in improving rural health access will help turn this plan into a working service that can assist many families in times of urgent need.

Sincerely,

Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
