July 2025 Update: Malnourished children in Haiti

By Aicha Belabbes | Community Giving Coordinator

Dear Friends,

On behalf of all our staff and patients, thank you for your generous giving to Partners In Health (PIH)! We are so grateful for your partnership in supporting our fight against child malnutrition in Haiti. Today, we would like to share with you a success story from our Zanmi Lasante (as PIH is known in Haiti) colleagues.

In the heights of Guebot, a landlocked locality in the Los Palma communal section of Hinche commune in rural Haiti, life is hard, and resources scarce. This is where Kedson, a little boy barely a year and four months old, began his life in the shadow of the loss of his mother, Elièse, who died a month after his birth. Deprived of breast milk, proper care and a stable environment, Kedson quickly fell ill.

His father, Killik, did what he could. This quiet, courageous man found himself alone, with a distressed baby in his arms, and few options around him. Persistent fever, chronic diarrhea, severe weight loss… He didn’t know where else to turn. That’s when a community health worker, Julma Charles, told him about a mobile clinic organized by Zanmi Lasante in the nearby locality of Angoman, as part of the Nutrition / CFGB program.

Killik goes there, his heart worried but buoyed by hope. That day, Kedson is carefully looked after by nurses, nutritionists and health workers. The diagnosis was quickly made: acute malnutrition. Treatment began immediately—therapeutic nutritional products, medical assistance and psychosocial support for the father. Follow-up is organized, despite many challenges.

Killik returns every week, never missing an appointment. Little by little, Kedson is gaining weight. He starts to stand up.

This week, back at Angoman, the team saw him again. And those who saw him for the first time can’t believe it. The change is profound. It’s not a miracle, but the fruit of rigorous, coordinated, human effort. It’s the result of a care network that works even in the most forgotten areas.

At Partners In Health, every child counts. Every life deserves to be defended.

Behind the little body that comes back to life, there’s a father who never gave up, a team that moved, and an organization that believes that children’s health should not depend on the chance of their birth.

In times like these, your support allows us to keep going for children in Haiti. Thank you for standing with us, for believing in our mission, and sharing in our commitment to Haiti’s future.

With gratitude,

Partners in Health
