Summary

We provide a safe home for 45 children from isolated mountain villages and broken families who have no place else to go. We offer an opportunity to succeed through education, with family-style housing, balanced nutritious meals, school uniforms, tutors, and medical care. We sponsor 30 additional children at Ton Roong, a government boarding primary school for Hill Tribe children. But it can only care for the kids five days a week. We provide caregivers, meals, and teachers on weekends.

Challenge

Children living in isolated, impoverished mountain villages of Northern Thailand have little chance to escape a life of poverty. They have no access to education and are further limited by only speaking their tribal language. Too often their only path in life is to support themselves and their families through the sex trade and forced labor. They often live in abusive family situations, are frequently malnourished, and have no self-esteem. These children have no dreams of a brighter future.

Solution

The most direct way to avert the sex trade as the only option for survival is to give these children an education, make them more valuable than the price to work in the sex and lowest skilled labor trades. Tutoring helps them learn the Thai language, so they can enter public schools and catch up on their education. Their health is improved through nutritious meals. They learn about taking responsibility for themselves and the choices they make. Their world is opened up and dreams begin.

Long-Term Impact

Our children understand that education is the golden door to escape poverty and build a better life. They are motivated and succeeding, reaching for their dreams. As they finishing middle school, where the dropout rate is highest, they go on to high school and university to reach their goals. Their futures, as well as their children's futures, will be free from the cycle of poverty they were born into. Each child who succeeds is a ripple of hope that impacts everyone in their circle of life.
