In Nepal, many people view children born with disabilities as a penance for the sins committed in a previous life.
Since its founding 25 years ago, the Nepal Youth Foundation has worked to help disabled people shed that stigma and grow into healthy, productive members of society.
We currently support 100 children through our Disabled Scholarship Program. Meet a few of our students!
Pushpa,15, lost his footing while climbing trees in 2012.
The fall left him paralyzed from the waist down.
His father sold their land to pay for his treatment but it was not enough. NYF offered him a scholarship and he is now a star student in the the 8th grade at Khagendra Navjiwann School.
Sachita, who was born blind, has been in our Disabled Scholarship Program since 2006. She comes from a large family with an older sister who is also blind. Sachita lives at the hostel of the Lab School in Kathmandu where she has excelled. The 16-year-old recently passed the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exam -- a rigorous test required of all Nepali students to enter college.
We are very proud of her achievement!
Thank you and dhanyabad!
