Provide Flood and Landslide Relief in Sierra Leone

Dear project supporters,

Many families in Sierra Leone were displaced due to the flooding and mudslide disaster that took place on August 14, 2017.  We are deeply grateful for your on-going support that is enabling us to continue to bring hope to flood victims in Freetown. 

One of the families supported by your generosity is the Kanu family. Mr. Kanu, his wife, and two kids lost everything when the disaster struck.  He said the whole process was like a nightmare and it was unfortunate to realize that it was all a reality. He added that he was a new tenant in his home and he had have never been part of any disaster of that nature. He said the whole incident occurred as "if the water was oozing out of the ground," and “in less than 30 minutes we lost everything we have worked hard for”.

He said that the scene was so severe that he had to escape with his family to a safer place. After his family was safe, he and some other members of the community assisted the military and policemen in getting others to safety.

Mr. Kanu said that after the flood they had no place to sleep and no home, so they registered with the government and received some support until the government discontinued their assistance. Mr. Kanu is a secondary school teacher and his wife is a petty trader and the extra support his family is receiving from generous donors like you is helping them rebuild their lives. 

Recovery is a long-term process. In the coming months,  more families like the Kanu family need our support.  Thank you so much for your kind on-going assistance.
