This project addresses the challenges faced by young people in Sierra Leone through workforce empowerment and development initiatives. Through vital vocational training in tailoring, catering, mentoring, and computer/information technology, we are sculpting futures and fostering self-sufficiency, thus breaking the cycle of poverty and powerlessness. By investing in skills development, we can unlock the full potential of every individual and build a brighter future for all.
In 2018, the International Labour Organization (ILO) sounded a wake-up call, reporting that "working poverty in Africa" was so significant that it represented over half (56%) of the world's working poor. Yet, African employment represented only 14% of global employment. Young adults, brimming with potential, find themselves trapped in a relentless cycle of powerlessness and poverty. The opportunity to acquire the expertise needed to become self-sufficient remains out of reach for many.
This project confronts the issue of skills deficits head-on by offering comprehensive training in areas such as computer literacy, tailoring, cosmetology, mentoring, and entrepreneurial management. Trainees receive marketable skills and, when possible, toolkits to start their businesses. We are unlocking the door to poverty reduction, economic rejuvenation, and sustainable development. Our trainees receive more than just knowledge; they receive the tools to build their own futures.
The transformative journey we embark upon is not merely a short-term fix; it is a lifelong transformation. Technical and vocational training programs hold the potential to elevate youth development, instilling self-reliance and entrepreneurial prowess. By addressing poverty and promoting the growth of local economies, our programs become a powerful intervention that uplifts the people of Sierra Leone.
