Welcoming the new animal manager
At Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage, we've recently bid farewell to our esteemed animal manager, José, and extended a warm welcome to Laurie, our new addition to the team. Laurie, hailing from France, brings her expertise and passion for animal welfare to our sanctuary.
Enhancing Animal Enclosures
We've been tirelessly working on enhancing our animal enclosures to ensure our furry and feathered residents have the best possible habitats. The caracal enclosure, now boasting canyons, caves, lush plants, and numerous hiding spots, provides a more natural and stimulating environment for our caracals.
Moreover, a new wooden shed has been erected to offer a comfortable and safe space for our beloved owls, prioritizing their well-being and shelter needs.
Enriching Animal Lives
Dedicated to enriching the lives of our animals, we've introduced innovative enrichments tailored to specific species.
The lions are indulging in their love for soccer balls while also enjoying their meals placed strategically high up in the trees.
Our mongooses have been captivated by big ice cubes, igniting their curiosity and bringing them joy.
Animal Welfare
In our commitment to animal welfare, we've organized invigorating walks for our donkey, taking advantage of the lush greenery post-rain.
Additionally, Toto the owl and Gaspard the meerkat have received exceptional care and attention during their recoveries from injuries.
While Toto continues to be under care, Gaspard is showing significant signs of improvement.
Challenges and Losses
Despite our best efforts, we've faced some unfortunate losses. The passing of our beloved cheetah Toby, due to skin cancer, attributed to old age, and the unfortunate incident involving a spitting cobra resulting in the loss of our stork have deeply saddened us.
Future Plans for Lion Enclosure
Our plans call for improvements comparable to those made to the caracal enclosure, ensuring that their comfort and well-being are a priority.
At Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage, our commitment to the well-being and conservation of our animals remains unwavering. Thank you for your support!
