Winter Wellness and a Little Rescue Magic

Dear Sponsors,

We’re happy to bring you a new update from the bush, filled with good news and gratitude!

Eyore, our sweet donkey, has recovered well from his recent eye irritation. The cooler winter days have been kind to him, and he’s back to enjoying his peaceful routine.

All of our animals are healthy and doing well, thanks to your continued support. And we even had a small but touching rescue recently—a baby nyala arrived with a piece of sharp metal painfully stuck in her tiny hoof. With quick action from our team and the gentle care of the vet, we removed the object and treated the wound. She’s now recovering beautifully and is back to her natural behaviour as a wild nyala in the bush—she’s doing very well.

We’ve also been giving some extra attention to our servals' enclosure, where a few creative staff and volunteers brought it to life with fresh, vibrant paintings. These colorful touches not only enrich the space but also reflect the love we pour into every animal’s home.

Just 300 meters from our camp, there’s a large rocky outcrop that is home to a group of wild dassies (rock hyraxes). This winter, we were delighted to spot two new baby dassies among them! It's always such a joy to witness the wildlife thriving around us—it reminds us that every part of nature, big or small, matters deeply.

Your donations make these moments possible—from emergency treatments to beautiful improvements. Every contribution helps us protect, heal, and bring joy to the wonderful creatures we care for.

With heartfelt appreciation,
The DAKTARI Team
