Welcoming visitors to the Sunshine Preschool has always been a delightful experience, for the children, the staff and the trustees. Not only do they get a chance to meet the children and experience for themselves the opportunities provided at the school but also it gives the children and staff the occasion to showcase their work. The Sunshine Preschool is privileged to implement numerous programmes which are not part of the usual curriculum. We thank all our donors whose generous funding has helped us to do so.
“Wow, I never thought it would be like this,” said a first-time visitor who helped re-design and fund the washing bay so that more children can simultaneously wash their hands before and after their meals.
“So happy the Sunshine Preschool focuses on education and creative learning,” said another visitor.
Amongst the visitors are those who volunteer their skills and time. One of the important programmes implemented under this is the Early Childhood Development (ECD) programme. We are so grateful to our them for their sustained dedication and commitment to address the special needs of children.
It was a privilege to have had a well-known teacher of traditional Sri Lankan dance to conduct a workshop for our children. An exceptional and valuable experience for the children to be a part of the country’s rich cultural heritage and timeless dance-form.
Welcoming interactions help build strong relationships which is important for vulnerable families and especially vulnerable children. A sense of belonging unfolds with every smiling face reflecting its importance. Their self-assurance was most visible when the children welcomed a larger group of visitors. Having participated in numerous interactive programmes, not being shy to greet visitors was therefore comfortable. The children seized the opportunity to also practice their English language skills (another out of the syllabus programme).
