The graduation ceremony for twenty-three children leaving the preschool was held along with the end of year party and school concert before proud parents, invitees and friends from the community. The rain and wet weather did not dampen the celebrations. We were extremely fortunate as one week later, the cyclonic storm Ditwah which began as a weak but catastrophic tropical storm caused heavy flooding and landslides, killing over 800 people islandwide. It was the deadliest natural disaster in the country since the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Sri Lanka’s education system is among the casualties of Cyclone Ditwah, with severe damage to school and preschool infrastructure. We are thankful our children and families are safe and that the preschool compound only partially impacted. We are grateful to all our friends, well-wishers, volunteers and donors both locally and internationally for their generosity and volunteerism throughout 2025. We are grateful for the timely funding of The Sunshine Charity’s Micro-project, 2026 Educational Needs for Children which will help enormously.
We thank all our donors and wish everyone happy holidays and a bright and prosperous New Year!
