Dear Friends of Sustainable Healthcare for Haiti,
As we’ve closed out 2025 and moved into 2026, we want to begin by expressing our deepest appreciation! Your generosity on GivingTuesday, and your continued support throughout the year, have had a direct and meaningful impact on the children and young adults in our care. Because of you, they are receiving medical attention, staying enrolled in school, and being supported through an incredibly challenging environment. We are truly grateful for your trust and partnership.
Updates Across Our Three Pillars
1. Healthcare
Over the past two months, multiple children have been treated for medical and dental needs, including infections, gastrointestinal illnesses, and dental procedures. Several required hospital visits and short hospitalizations, though all have recovered well. Emergency medical funds have been essential in allowing the team to respond quickly when urgent needs arise.
We are also excited to share important structural progress within our healthcare pillar. Anna Vettiankal, our newest board member, has partnered with Dr. Ellen Lawson, a critical member of our board who has worked in Haiti for more than 20 years, to initiate weekly clinical support calls with the team in Haiti.
These calls include our two nurses, Jodalienne and Joudeline, as well as the Foundation’s Finance & Technical Partnerships Director, DoudmyJoseph. Together, they are focused on:
Regarding Christa’s surgery - the procedure was postponed ensuring proper medical preparation. Once she is cleared by her doctors, she will be rescheduled for a date in the near future. As always, we will keep you updated on her progress of completing her corrective amputation surgery and receiving a new prosthetic.
2. Education
October marked the start of the school year, a major milestone for the children. Most were successfully enrolled and returned to school, and we continue working to provide funding for post-high school opportunities.
We are especially encouraged by the progress of several young women continuing their higher education journeys:
At the moment, everything is going well. They take their studies very seriously, and Doudmy continues to personally monitor their conduct, provide mentorship, and offer guidance as they navigate the demands of higher education.
As always, these amazing young adults are so incredibly thankful for your continued support and prayers.
3. Young Adult Development
Our team in Haiti, spearheaded by Doudmy, is actively developing a new structured young adult development program to continue the great work and partnership that was started with Kids Connection Haiti. This program will focus on young adults who are:
A primary focus will be on those who have already graduated from high school and are waiting to take their next steps in their educational or career journey. These transitional years are critical, and structured guidance, accountability, and mentorship can make the difference between stagnation and forward momentum.
We are currently in the early planning phases and will provide a more detailed overview in future newsletters!
A Moment of Reflection
The ongoing insecurity in Haiti continues to affect daily life in profound ways. In November, the Foundation tragically lost a devoted staff member (Mr. Jonel Pierre, the boys’ monitor) to gang violence. Jonel was on his way home to assist his wife, who had been severely injured in an accident when he was confronted by gang members and murdered. Mr. Pierre worked tirelessly to help the kids succeed. He accompanied the children to school, helped them upon their return, ensured they had eaten, and did a bit of everything. His loss is deeply felt within the Foundation. He leaves behind his wife, who was severely injured, and his young children. SHH donated $1k to his wife to help pay for hospital bills in her recovery as well as help fund some schooling for his kids. Please keep Jonel’s wife and kids in your prayers and feel free to reach out if interested in supporting his family financially – we will ensure funds are sent directly to his wife.
