Dear SHH Friends and Supporters,
As we begin the month of November, we wanted to share some of the latest updates from Haiti.
KCH STARS Program – Life Skills Training Completion
The Kids Connection Haiti (KCH) STARS Program, supported by Sustainable Healthcare for Haiti (SHH), recently celebrated a major milestone — the completion of the Life Skills phase of training. Over the past 8 months, participants have built a strong foundation in confidence, communication, and self-awareness, preparing them for the next stage of their personal and professional journeys.
Program Overview
Through a series of interactive modules, students developed key life skills to help them lead healthy, independent, and purpose-driven lives:
Together, these lessons have empowered our students to see themselves as capable leaders ready to shape their own futures.
Celebrating Success
We are proud to share moments from the Life Skills Training Completion Ceremony, where students reflected on their progress, shared gratitude with mentors, and celebrated one another’s growth. The photos capture not just an ending, but a beginning — a symbol of how far they’ve come and the bright potential ahead.

Next Steps: Career & Professional Development
With the Life Skills phase now complete, the next stage of the STARS Program will focus on career and professional development. Students will explore job readiness, vocational training, and mentorship opportunities to build confidence in the workplace and strengthen long-term self-sufficiency.
This transition marks the next step toward the STARS mission: empowering Haiti’s young adults to live with purpose, independence, and hope.
HEALTHCARE: Latest Updates with Christa
We thank you for your continued prayers & support for Christa, the young woman we’ve been supporting in her journey to receive a new prosthetic. We want to share her latest updates from Haiti.
From our last newsletter, you know that through further conversations with a US Orthopedic surgeon, we concluded that Christa needed to undergo a corrective amputation to allow her stump to be able to properly take the new prosthetic and relieve her pain.
We were able to have Christa seen by the lead Orthopedic doctor from the Haitian Olympic team to ensure she was getting the best guidance and care from Haiti. Following his assessment, and after a thorough review from our Haiti team and our SHH medical advisors, it has been decided that Christa will indeed need a below-knee amputation surgery along with her prosthetic, followed by postoperative support. This postoperative support will range from psychological support as well as physical and mental rehabilitation to help with the new prosthetic leg.
We have received quotes for the entire operation and post-operative care (~$7k USD) and areworking to secure additional funding and get her on theschedule.
See photos from Christa's latest visit to the doctor.
LOOKING AHEAD: Get ready for GivingTuesday!
Please mark your calendars for GivingTuesday 2025, which is coming up on Tuesday, December 2nd. We will be sharing more details in the coming weeks about how you can help contribute to our mission and maximize your impact.
As always, thank you for your support of our mission and of the children in Haiti. Please continue to pray for the well-being of these wonderful children and young adults!
All the best,
Tommy Conner
