Summary

H.O.P.E.'s Alyans Sante Borgne hospital offers affordable health and dental care, and fosters economic growth in the process by hiring local, qualified residents. This project will provide health interventions and treatments (such as general emergency services, cancer screenings, and dental care) to the men, women and children in the rural commune of Borgne, Haiti.

Challenge

With a population of 80,000, only 15% of residents in Borgne have a secure source of income, meaning most must figure out how to survive on about $2 per day. Borgne and the surrounding community is also isolated from Haiti's more developed areas, which already struggles to achieve equal distribution of healthcare. Because of this, Borgne residents face one of the biggest challenges related to extreme poverty - limited access to healthcare.

Solution

H.O.P.E.'s hospital program offers affordable health services to the people of Borgne, by way of check-ups, emergency services, labor and delivery, vaccinations, oral/dental health, cancer screenings, HIV/AIDs and STI screenings, education and treatment, surgical services and more, to over 3,000 people month.

Long-Term Impact

We believe that the best solutions for achieving meaningful impact in Haiti are rooted directly in the community, employ local residents, and are driven by people on the ground. Health in this case, is not simply the absence of illness, but the presence of physical, mental and social wellbeing. If people are healthy, they can take full advantage of every opportunity to learn, work, and contribute to the development of their community.
