The project aims to carry out water drilling and produce vegetables through agroecological practices in 11 primary schools in rural areas. To allow 5,953 pupils to have drinking water and and healthy lunches. The member of parent associations from each school will be trained in agroecology techniques to help schools produce organic vegetables. We hope to fight food insecurity and malnutrition in 5,953 students, including 52 orphaned and 106 displaced students in rural areas.
Central African Republic has gone through military-political crises. This situation has deterior food system, both quality and quantity and access to basic needs, including access to drinking water. It is indeed estimated that 30.2% of households are food insecure, including 7.5% in severe food insecurity, and 22.7% moderate food insecurity. The prevalence of stunting among children under 5 is 41% (UNICEF, 2018). Stunting affects the long-term healthand intellectual development of children.
The project will allow 5,953 students to have healthy food and cover their nutritional needs. Canteen days with "vegetable salad" will be set up. Part of the vegetables will be sold to purchase staple foods and meat or fish. Water drilling will allow the 5,953 students to drink drinking water and wash their hands, to avoid diarrheal and infectious diseases. The cognitive awakening of pupils in environmental protection practices through agroecology will improves.
The schools will be self-sufficient. they will be able to acquire the seeds and agricultural tools themselves, througth the sale of part of the vegetables harvested. The water drilling will improve the drinking water supply system for households in the 11 villages. The sold of water to a lower cost to households and the income will help to maintain the water borehole. Parents of students are involved the project. AFDD agricultural engineers and technicians will continue to monitor schools.
