Dear Friends and Supporters,
I write to you today with a heavy heart to share that we have not yet received any donations to support children with dyslexia in Nigerian schools. This means that hundreds of children who struggle daily with reading and writing continue to face misunderstanding and punishment in classrooms where their learning differences remain unrecognized.
Right now, children with dyslexia are being called lazy, slow, or dull by teachers who have never received training to identify this common learning difference. These children sit in crowded classrooms, trying to make sense of letters that appear jumbled, facing daily frustration and shame. Without intervention, many will eventually drop out of school, believing they are not smart enough to learn.
Our project is prepared to change this narrative. We have identified schools where children desperately need support. We have sourced specialized learning materials, including visual aids and reading tools designed specifically for dyslexic learners. We have trained specialists ready to work with both students and teachers. However, without funding, we cannot place these resources in the hands that need them most.
The cost of inaction is measured in lost potential. Each term that passes without support means more children fall further behind their peers, more students develop anxiety about school, and more bright young minds become convinced they are failures.
We are asking for your help to begin this vital work. Your contribution can provide a child with learning tools that finally make reading possible. It can train a teacher to recognize dyslexia and respond with support instead of punishment. It can give a struggling student the confidence to stay in school and pursue their dreams.
With hope and determination,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
