This project will support 1,500 children with dyslexia in Nigeria by providing learning aids, one-on-one support, and dyslexia-friendly materials. Many of these children are labeled as lazy or slow and left behind in school. With early help, they can read, write, and stay in class with others. There is little awareness and almost no local resources for dyslexia in public schools. This project will fill that gap and make school less frustrating for struggling children.
Dyslexia is poorly understood in most schools in Nigeria. Children with it are often punished for poor reading or writing. Many are called dull and left behind in class. Public schools do not provide any support or materials for these children. Families cannot afford private help or specialist teachers, and most have never even heard of the word "dyslexia."
The project will screen children, provide learning materials that fit their needs, and train teachers to give simple support. It will create learning spaces with easy-to-use tools such as visual cards, audio books, and reading strips. Children will get one-on-one help to keep up in class. This will reduce failure, shame, and dropouts linked to poor reading.
Children with dyslexia who are supported early can learn well, finish school, and grow their skills. This project can help them stay in school instead of dropping out. By training teachers and giving schools the right tools, this project can make classrooms more friendly for children who learn in different ways. Over time, it will also raise awareness in local communities.
