Less than 50% of women who have been imprisoned find work within the first year of being released. For those who find employment, their income is usually no more than minimum wage. This project provides women employment training and provides them the opportunity to demonstrate their skills through an internship that results in job placement so that women who have been incarcerated have a better chance at self-reliance and stability for themselves and their children.
Formerly incarcerated people are unemployed at a rate of over 27% - higher than the U.S. historical unemployment rate even during the Great Depression. Most incarcerated women are the primary caretakers of their children and have experienced significant trauma both before and during incarceration. This project will help six women in the greater Washington DC area gain stable employment.
Perfect, Inc. provides skills training, lifestyle coaching, and an internship for formerly incarcerated women to give them the opportunity to demonstrate their strengths and abilities. Women who complete the Perfect, Inc. program are placed in a job and provided support for as long as they need the resources to find stability and financial independence.
This project will provide six women with the skills they need to work in customer service, hospitality, or administrative support and aims to place them in a job which helps them achieve self-reliance. Through lifestyle coaching and a warm, supportive environment, Perfect Inc aims to give women the confidence necessary to perfect their story and find community after incarceration.
