Project Report | Jun 8, 2020
School supplies distribution among street children at Metro Manila.

By Jem Tumbaga | Resource Mobilization and Communications Officer

Since 2018, Childhope Philippines has been helping students from needy families living in streets of Metro Manila with backpacks & school supplies through our EduKit Project. This project aims to help struggling parents cope with one of the most expensive responsibilities they face every school year. Buying new school supplies has been a burden to many of them & the majority of the poor families we help find these school expenses overwhelming.

This is the reason why we give away several numbers of notebooks, a complete set of writing materials, and a school bag — so that the parents don’t need to burden themselves anymore with additional expenses as the school year approaches.

This year’s distribution is made possible by SM Foundation which we were able to distribute EduKits to 300 street children on Saturday, June 06, 2020. Most of the recipients of this year's distribution were the children under the Educational Assistance Program.

“Giving of these school supplies was meant to motivate pupils and parents to continue the schooling of their children,” said Ms. Salen, Childhope Street Education Program Manager.

The Resource Mobilization and Communication Team led the distribution of 300 sets assisted by Melchor Amante, a street educator, and the parent and youth leaders in all areas where Childhope conducts their program.

Aside from the giving of materials, children and parents also received food packs sponsored by Taiwan Fund For Children and Families.
