In line with the mission and vision of the organization, “to integrate programs and services to street children, as well as gaining access for the fulfillment of their rights”, Childhope Philippines’ street educators and social workers gathered together to conduct a one-day workshop on module development on October 28 at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Ermita, Manila.
As the COVID-19 pandemic interfered with the children’s education, the exertion in teaching children continues to be diverse such as in online and modular learning methods.
The goal of this workshop is to help street educators become professionally competent in requiring abilities to integrate awareness, knowledge, and skills while maintaining a positive relationship with the children.
It is expected that street educators and social workers should enhance their skills in providing teaching activities to their street children clientele in accordance with the Street Education curriculum. This workshop will also enable street educators and social workers to learn new concepts specifically in teaching children which will empower them to become effective and efficient educators.
Childhope Assistant Executive Director, Ms.Quinto, spearheaded the workshop.
Ms. Quinto highlighted the importance of the ADDIE “Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate” Instructional Design and BLOOM’s Taxonomy in developing modules. This will guide the street educators in preparing their action plan and properly assess if the resources, agency programs and services, and level of children’s learning including environmental factors are interconnected.
She also presented the Instructional System Design as a training activity template that street educators will use as a fundamental basis to evaluate their learning sessions.
After the plenary session, the street educators were divided into two groups and assigned to do a training activity plan. The purpose of this group activity is to assess the comprehensive understanding of street educators regarding the module development workshop and for them to be able to apply it in their future teaching sessions.
The workshop concluded through the presentation of their designed training activity plans.
