Over 3 million people in Nigeria are displaced, with girls facing the highest risk of missing school. In IDP camps, less than 30% of school-aged girls are enrolled due to poverty, early marriage, and lack of resources. This project will provide scholarships covering school fees, uniforms, books, and supplies for girls in IDP camps, giving them a chance to learn in safe environments. Immediate support is needed to prevent more girls from losing their education.
Conflict in Nigeria has displaced millions, leaving children in camps with little access to schooling. Girls are at greater risk of being kept at home, forced into early marriage, or pushed into labor to support families. With school fees and supplies unaffordable, many parents prioritize boys over girls. As a result, education for displaced girls is often cut short, leaving them with limited opportunities for growth and future independence.
This project will provide scholarships to cover tuition, books, uniforms, and supplies for girls in IDP camps. By removing financial barriers, families will be encouraged to send their daughters to school. The scholarships will be delivered through direct coordination with camp schools, guaranteeing that funds are spent on education. This approach reduces school dropout rates and helps displaced girls continue learning despite their circumstances.
With scholarships, girls in IDP camps can remain in school longer, delay early marriage, and gain skills for better livelihoods. Educated girls are more likely to contribute positively to their communities and support future generations' learning. Over time, access to schooling can help break cycles of poverty and displacement. The project creates a path for stability and opportunity in the lives of displaced girls and their families.
