YUM VTC: before and after

By Aris Miarti | Program Development and Donor Relation

The roof before renovation
The roof before renovation

In mid April 2014, the Vocational Training Center (VTC) Cipanas with the help of Priscilla Hall Memorial Foundation (PHMF) started its renovations. The building that has served us for more than 30 years, during the last rainy season there were several leaks disturbing much our classes and activities. Clearly, we needed to do some serious repairs.

Initially, the renovations were meant to repair only the roof and repair few doors and window frames, but by the time the works began, we found that most of the wooden window frames and windowpanes and ceiling needed to be replaced. No need to say, repainting as well the walls were cracks were very visible.

In early July, we had the visit of a group of 8 volunteers from Ceres Global Group from Australia, for an organic farm workshop and community services for a period of a week at our YUM Cipanas and another week at YUM Kalimantan. They were very enthusiastic with the works and thanks for them, the outdoor walls of the building could be painted and with it the works ended. They were very happy to contribute in the VTC's changes and we truly thankful them for their help.

Now, the VTC looks very fresh and clean. The colorful walls in green give a bright effect inside the class while the cream color walls outside is in harmony with its environment. On the other hand, we got a good number of chairs donated by the Jakarta International School (JIS) that are placed in the terrace to facilitate VTC's students waiting for their classes.

We wish to emphasize our sincere gratitude to everyone who has helped us: friends, supporters and donors. We hope that our VTC will be able to continue contributing its efforts in reducing unemployment by providing its best services to disadvantaged youths so that they are able to earn a living. Thank you!
