In both of Yayasan Usaha Mulia (YUM)’s working areas; West Java and Central Kalimantan, the path of opportunity to break the cycle of poverty is often shaped by circumstances beyond one’s control. In West Java, many communities remain left behind, with 134 out of 354 villages still classified as underdeveloped. For young people growing up in these areas, access to skills training and stable employment remains limited. In Central Kalimantan, the challenges are even more pronounced. Long distances, limited resources, and socio-cultural barriers mean that many young people—especially girls—struggle to complete high school or access opportunities to build their future.
Recognizing these challenges, YUM, through its Vocational Training Centre (VTC) , seeks not only to equip participants with technical skills but also to restore confidence and expand opportunities. In addition to regular courses such as English, Computer, and Sewing, YUM offers complementary workshops on job-seeking, financial literacy, and public speaking. These sessions cover practical topics, including writing résumés and application letters, preparing for interviews, budgeting, saving, and navigating the job market.
In the first batch of 2026, the complementary workshops were conducted in February. In West Java, 46 students received foundational knowledge in financial literacy. Meanwhile, in Central Kalimantan, 40 students participated in similar sessions, with additional training in job-seeking skills and public speaking.
One of the participants, DE, a high school graduate and student of the English and Computer courses at YUM’s Vocational Training Centre in Central Kalimantan, shared her experience: “The job-seeking workshop has changed the way I approach looking for a job. I used to struggle to create a good résumé and felt very nervous during interviews. Through this workshop, I learned how to search for job opportunities and write a proper résumé. The public speaking session was also very helpful—now I feel more confident when facing interviewers. Thank you.”
This progress would not have been possible without your generous support. Thank you for being part of this journey and for helping turn these youth aspirations into reality.
