Last week, the YUM Vocational Training Center buzzed with ambition and energy as 19 eager young learners came together for our Job Seeking Skills Workshop. These participants are students from our English, Computer, and Sewing classes, along with several of our sponsored students, are all working toward one goal: turning their dreams into real jobs. With the theme “Preparation to Enter the Workforce,” the workshop focused on helping participants take those first, crucial steps toward employment. And who better to guide them than two inspiring YUM team members who’ve walked the same path?
Ms. Mutiara, YUM’s Sponsorship Project Officer, presented useful information on how to create an attractive curriculum vitae and a compelling application letter. She also shared practical tips on where to find job opportunities. Meanwhile, Mr. Adang, a beloved preschool teacher at YUM, brought warmth and wisdom to the topic of job interviews. He offered practical insights on how to make a great first impression and what to expect on that nerve-wracking first day at work. What made the session truly special that both speakers shared their own real-life experiences, complete with challenges, setbacks, and victories. Which made their advice not just practical, but personal.
This workshop aimed to equip participants with the knowledge, tools, and techniques needed. to effectively search for and secure employment. At its core, this workshop was all about empowerment, giving young people the tools, confidence, and mindset to succeed in a competitive job market.
But do not just take our word for it. Here’s what some of the participants had to say:
“I gained a lot of new knowledge about how to get a job. Both speakers shared their experiences in a way that was easy to understand, and everything they shared was based on their personal journeys. Thank you for helping me feel more confident in applying for jobs.” SA,19 years old , secondary school graduate and, YUM - VTC Sewing class student
“This workshop was very helpful for fresh graduates like me, who have no experience or clear understanding of how to search for a job. I believe workshops like this are essential for all job seekers, which is said to be tough. I hope this activity continues to be held regularly. Thank you to the speakers for the valuable knowledge shared. AK, 18 years old, graduated from high school, YUM sponsorship student
