An Insightful Experience at YUM's VTC English Program

Dear kind supporters,

My name is Atiqah, and I am an International Relations student at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Malaysia. I am currently interning at Yayasan Usaha Mulia (YUM), and during my time here, I had the opportunity to join an English class at the Vocational Training Center (VTC) in Cipanas with Mr. Ray and his students. In this report, I would like to share a bit about that experience.

The session began with introductions and a fun exchange of knowledge about Malaysia and Indonesia. From the very beginning, I felt truly welcomed. The students’ warmth, energy, and curiosity created such a positive environment, and I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to connect with them.

I was impressed by how ambitious the students are and by the potential they show. They were not shy about sharing their ideas, and their enthusiasm for learning English was evident throughout the session.

A big part of this success is thanks to Mr. Ray’s teaching. His creative approach—using games and relating lessons to current issues—kept the students engaged and motivated. It highlighted for me how important it is to make learning both relevant and enjoyable.

This experience helped me see how the VTC English program fosters not only language skills but also confidence and ambition in young people. I hope you will continue to support this program so that more students can gain the skills for seeking a job in the future. The good news is that GlobalGiving is currently matching donations until Friday, September 12 at 5pm EDT. The more donations this organization receives, the larger their share of the $215,000 Incentive Fund! If you were thinking of sending a donation to this wonderful project, now is the time!

Warm regards,
Atiqah
