As we have discussed in previous report, the VTC had to face the impact of the new school schedule set by the Government starting at the end of 7th term.
For that reason, we were obliged to re-schedule our classes in order to avoid clashes with the new school schedule for the 8th term. So, we shortened the opening hours at our VTC during week days and opened English and Computer classes on Saturday and Sunday.
Despite our efforts, we could only have 8 classes, compared with 12 during the previous term. And for the above reason, from 192 students registered, 154 only could continue attending our classes. But, those remaining students showed much diligence with the result that 151 students were entitled to receive their certificate based on the test results and their attendance commitment.
On the other hand, Job Seeking Skills Workshop held three times, it was attended by YUM VTC’s students and outside students. Besides, we had some requests from school teachers around YUM Cipanas, to hold other workshops. After assessing the needs and problems of the teachers working in the area of Cipanas, we decided to hold some Computer Workshops for 55 participants from teachers and administrative staff working in preschools and elementary schools or in governmental and social institutions, because they have no computer skills when, in fact, it is much needed for their work.
The workshop was carried out every Saturday and Sunday delivered by VTC’s Computer tutors, Mr. Adi Y Abdul Rahman and Mr. Deden Tosin. Participants learned about Computer basics including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher and others and those who attended the 2-day workshop were entitled to a certificate.
Dadan Iskandar, an administrative staff from Sindanglaya village, Cipanas wrote us saying:
“Thank you YUM for the attention paid to the administrative staff working in small villages. Currently, we canunderstand more about computers. I hope that YUM will have some other workshops in the future from a very basic to a higher levels.”
Despite the difficulties at the beginning expressed above, we could successfully finish the 8th term thanks to your donations.
Currently, we have one young man, a bookkeeper at YUM Head Office, Paridi Akbar, who wants to continue his studies at university level.
