Now, I can support my family-Haris, former student

Dear GlobalGiving donors,

My name is Haris, and I come from a disadvantaged family in Cipanas; my father is a farmer and my mother is a housewife. I am the fifth child from 11 siblings.

I joined the Yayasan Usaha Mulia (YUM) Vocational Training Centre in 2011, enrolling in both computer and English classes. Before, I was only able to use Microsoft Word, but now I am able to operate most basic computer applications and use the Internet. At the beginning, I found English was very difficult and complicated. However, the tutor at YUM was very helpful and motivating, so I became engaged, learned more vocabulary, and had fun learning with the other students.

I am now working as the shopkeeper at one of the well-known supermarkets in Indonesia. Since Cipanas is a tourism area, sometimes I have foreign customers. I can easily communicate with them now. My computer skills help me in doing the administration job at my work. Now, I have my regular income and able to support my family to fulfill their daily needs.

Let me use this opportunity to show my gratitude. None of the things above could be done if I had not joined the YUM VTC. I am very grateful I had the opportunity to join the program. I hope many more youths will have the same chance for a better future.

Yours,

Haris

Thanks to your generosity, Haris has gained the skills required to break out of the cycle of poverty. He can now support his family financially and be a role model to his younger siblings. The gift of one person’s education ripples through the community, empowering them to prosper. Help us to spread the word to your community that with a donation of just $10 per month, students like Haris can follow English language classes for free!
