Why is computer knowledge so important?

We’ve probably all realized that the working world is getting more competitive, requiring a person with an updated set of skills. That is why Yayasan Usaha Mulia, through its Vocational Training Centre, is giving the opportunity to students from disadvantaged and destitute families to learn and update their skills in order to more easily get a job.

Being able to use computers is very important these days. None of the office work today can be done without a computer.  The YUM-VTC offers 3 optional subjects for our computer classes: Microsoft Office, Design and Hardware. We also teach the students to use the internet to find a job and send their CVs to companies.

This term, there are  90 students enrolled in the classes with 4 dedicated Computer tutors. Not every school in Cipanas teaches computer skills, mostly because they do not have the facility and compatible sources to teach the students. In the future, the YUM-VTC, together with some schools in area, would like to organise computer classes as one of the school’s extracurricullar activities.

Here are a few things our students have said about the classes:

“I am a drop out student, my parents could not support me to continue my studies. My only option is to work, so that I can support my family. By enrolling in the Computer class,  I hope that I will be able to get a job job and earn more money.”   Muhidin, Computer class student.

“The YUM-VTC has given me an opportunity to learn about computers. I did not get a chance to study how to use a computer at my school. I love being in the class and being taught by Mr. Deden (tutor). He is very kind and pays attention to his students. Now I can work with Word and Excel.” Zian, Computer class students.

“I enrolled in Design class. I want to be able to work with a computer to make a design, a logo, a banner etc. The tutor is very kind, he explains the lesson patiently. I want to have my own printing shop someday.”  Galih,Computer class students.

Dear GlobalGiving generous donors, thank you very much for your trust and support for us. Help us spread the word! Here’s how others can help us: by donating just $25 every month, a donor will help provide the much needed internet connection for the students to learn in Computer Class”
