What type of career matches your personality? Our students find out!

I'm sure you have once asked yourself what you wanted to do in life... Every young person goes through the same dilemma! Recently, with the help of volunteer Lyn Everingham who is a psychosocial vocational & enterprise mentor, the YUM Vocational Training Center added an improvement to the program by providing vocational assessment to assist the students to gain insight into their personality and career values which best suit their profile. In a series of simple card matching exercises, individual students can self evaluate their character and priorities as well as matching their personal interests and strengths to the career. Some students have dreams and aspirations which may be unrealistic or inconsistent. However, through these activities guided by dialogue with a vocational teacher, we hope to target their energy to a realistic career plan.

Career planning and assessment is popular in the business community particularly in the corporate sector where the Myers Briggs type assessment is well known. Assisting young people to develop this personal insight at a young age, can be an efficient way to clarify their educational and career goals. By understanding personal strengths and vulnerabilities, each person is more likely to understand how to find the most satisfying employment which is realistic for their life circumstances.

Would you like to continue helping more students at the VTC? GlobalGiving is helping us get more donations this end of year. By donating on #GivingTuesday (Tuesday 29 November), your donation will be matched by 50%! The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has generously provided $500,000 in matching funds for #GivingTuesday, enabling GlobalGiving to match donations up to the first $1 million raised! Matching will begin at midnight EST and conclude at 11:59:59 pm EST or when funds run out. This is the largest amount of donations GlobalGiving has matched in one day!

If that's not enough to be excited about, GlobalGiving will also be matching new recurring donations starting from November 29th until December 31st! A generous anonymous donor has agreed to match new monthly donations at 200% up to $100 per donor

We're extremely excited about these opportunities and we hope that you are too! Please help us spread the word to your family and friends. Happy holiday from us all! :)
