Besides our regular courses such as English, Computer and Sewing, the YUM Vocational Training Centre (VTC) in Cipanas holds Job Seeking Skills (JSS) workshop once every term (4 months). We want to prepare our students to perform their best in getting their future job. In these workshops, the students learn how to make a good application letter, curriculum vitae and prepare themselvesfor a job interview. However during the last term’s workshop session, we introduced a new program: finding out what type of job suits our personality.
We started with a group discussion about the causes ofquitting a job. This then continued with a discussion about the job type that may suit a particular personality. This session was based on the Myers-Briggs test, a test that was introduced to YUM’s staff by Ms. Lyn Everingham who is a psychosocial vocational & enterprise mentor. She helped the YUM-VTC in 2016 by providing vocational assessment to assist the students to gain insight into their personality and career values that best suit their profile.
After giving the explanation about the types of personalities, like extrovert, introvert, sensitive etc, the students explored whichpersonality suits them best. They wrote down their personality type and their dream jobs. Everything was synchronized, scored and ranked, to discover which job was best for them. The session ended with a question and answer session.
This type of activity is so beneficial for young people looking to enter the employment world. YUM hopes to continue providing this type of learning for the youth who come from disadvantaged families. A big thanks to you, generous donors, for making this possible!
