Provide Solar Technology & Basic Computer Training

Here's an update computer training at the school

For the last three months, which was the school holiday period, we intensified studies for our computer classes. The computer training targeted children and youth who had finished Certificate of Primary Education. The beneficiaries learned the following computer skills:

1. Introduction to computers / Key boarding / Windows
2. Microsoft Word
3. Microsoft Excel
4. PowerPoint
5. Microsoft Access
6. Microsoft Publisher
7. Internet and email
8. Page maker.

In addition, they learned a range of related IT skills including binding, photocopying and laminating. Many of were quick to learn and complete practical sessions. The training will continue during the school period.

To date, 80 beneficiaries are now computer literate. They can use computers to write their own personal stories and experiences. They can also write a letter. At least half of the ones who are in high school have set up an email address and created a Facebook account.

Challenges Encountered:  Most of the beneficiaries came in late for the sessions – which made them miss some sessions. Also we did not have consistent power / electricity.  Another key challenge is the insufficiency of computers when doing practical sessions. 

One of the class 8 pupils, called September, had this to say “I am very excited about learning computers. It’s fun and enjoyable. I am confident and look forward to learning more in the future especially when I go to college”
