Melanoma Canada's Sun Guardians Grant Program aims to equip camps, daycares, community centers, and recreational facilities with essential sun safety tools and education to ensure that all youth, regardless of location or background, have access to the protection they need to enjoy the outdoors safely.
Kids deserve safe outdoor spaces to play, learn, and grow. But skin cancer is on the rise, and prevention starts in childhood. 1 in 3 cancers diagnosed in Canada is a skin cancer. 85% of skin cancers are caused by UV radiation. 80% of an individual's lifetime exposure to the sun occurs before the age of 18. A single blistering sunburn before the age of 20 increases the risk of developing melanoma later in life. Many youth programs lack adequate sun protection resources.

Reduce the incidence rates of SKIN cancer. This program, along with your donation, will empower youth programs nationwide to adopt and sustain effective sun safety practices, thereby reducing the incidence of skin cancer and promoting lifelong healthy habits among Canadian children. Early intervention is critical as 80% of lifetime sun exposure occurs before the age of 18.
