As part of our "Audience Project," Arts For All will tour a professional children's show, FREE OF CHARGE, to over 2,500 in-need children in the NYC area. Arts For All's 2012 show consists of two fairytale one-acts entitled "The Fairytale Academy" and "How Peanut Butter Met Jelly" written by Jenn Palumbo. Each one-act teaches important lessons to children about studying, sharing, teamwork, and friendship, with study guides provided. Assemblies are followed by a question and answer session.
Many programs offered for young people require funding from the hosting institution, which public schools cannot offer. Even in New York, a city brimming with theatres, museums, cultural centers, music venues, and other arts spaces, many children do not have access to these artistic institutions in or out of school due to the cost of artistic engagements. In addition to the fiscal cost, the time necessary to engage deeply with art is often unavailable outside of school settings.
Arts For All serves in-need children who have little means or opportunity to explore the arts due to economic disadvantages, physical and mental disabilities, hospitalization, socialization issues, emotional trauma, or any other life challenge. This project will provide children with the opportunity to have a professional children's show come directly to their school or youth organization. If enough funds are raised we will also send children free drama workshops along with the performances.
"The Fairytale Academy" and "How Peanut Butter Met Jelly" both provide valuable lessons for children, teaching children the importance of sharing, teamwork, and friendship. These themes will stay with children long after the show. Teachers will also revisit themes using Arts For All study guides provided, designed to encourage children to apply the lessons in their own lives.
