The burn surgery department in Idleb Specialized Surgical Hospital, supported by SEMA, began providing its surgical services to burn patients; these services include specialized surgeries like skin grafting, curettage, as well as other procedures.
"In the past, the hospital used to provide only first aid to burn victims before they were referred to Atmeh in Turkey, the process that caused heavy financial cost as well as a huge psychological and physical burden; this has been overcome with the launch of the burn surgery department in Idleb Specialized Surgical Hospital" said Dr. Abdullah, a specialized surgeon and the supervisor of the burns department.
With the new burn surgery department, the hospital moves to a higher level of caring for burn victims. The hospital also includes a treatment ward for men and another for women and children, where highest level of care is offered to them along with emergency treatment.
Dr. Abdullah also indicated that "the hospital receives 30 cases of burns a day, which is a rate of 900 injuries per month of varying burn degrees; 60% of them are children. The surgical teams daily perform between 4 to 6 surgeries between undressing, curettage and skin grafting." It is worth noting that the hospital serves a large area in northern Syria.
