Water is life but for school children of Jalala Junior secondary school, clean water is a luxury they can't access. Hope Spring Water Charity Foundation plans to build a solar-powered borehole to provide clean water for the poor and vulnerable children in Jalala Junior Secondary School, Tanke Community, Kwara State, Nigeria.
The students of Jalala Junior secondary school rely on dirty water from stream as source of drinking water. Due to lack of water, their toilet is permanently locked. For most of the school children, thirst and call-of-nature, brings their day in school, to an end. The girl child who resort to open defecation in bushes, are daily faced with increased risk of sexual abuse, while cholera and diarrhoea are common diseases amongst the children due to the dirty water they drink.
A solar-powered borehole will serve as a source of clean water for the school children. The children will have clean water to drink, which will reduce the incidence of cholera and diarrhoea amongst them. The toilet facilities will be reopened and cases of sexual abuse will reduce, amongst children who use dangerous bushes to poo.
The project will provide access to clean drinking water for school children, allowing them to concentrate on their studies and pursue their dreams, and finally break the poverty cycle in their families and community.
