Project Report | Dec 30, 2022
Assisting OVCs to Stay in School

By Alim Ousmanou | Project Leader

Brief Summary

In order to enable vulnerable children and orphans in the Far North Region of Cameroon continue their studies in a sustainable manner, EFA Cameroon thanks to the regular and constant support of GlobalGiving, once again assisted pupils and students who were promoted to higher grades and a new set vulnerable children for the 2022/2023 academic year.

               Activity

The assistance touched vulnerable children and orphans of EFA Cameroon’s network of people living with HIV/AIDS and others some community constituents was in terms of school needs and tuition for those with specific needs.

The distribution ceremony of the school items took place on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at the office of EFA Cameroon Maroua from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and on Thursday, September 22, 2022 in Mokolo.

20 OVCs (12 girls and 08 boys) from 04 associations and the community received school materials.

Human Interest Story

Among these children, the case of Mouktar, a student at Ouro-Tchede High School (Lycée de Ouro-Tchede) was specific: living with disability, assisted and followed by EFA Cameroon since the fifth grade, he is now he was promoted to form 2 in middle school with a good average. This prompted the project team under the coordinator to make a plea to the Social Affairs Department for a tuition exemption and also acquire a disability ID card to facilitate his access to all services in Cameroon.

Naomie a beneficiary testifiedI have hope that my dreams of becoming a medical doctor shall be realized. my status as a vulnerable orphan is no longer a limiting factor to my education and all I can say is thank you EFA Cameroon and GlobalGiving for the assistance and for enabling me to stay in school.”

Future Activity

While we continue to commend the efforts of GlobalGiving for its ongoing support to EFA Cameroon in achieving its goals, project and network of associations’ evaluations have been programmed for January and February 2023.
