Revitalizing PLWHIV Associations in the Far North

Introduction

EFA Cameroon, with nearly two decades of dedicated support from GlobalGiving, has been committed to improving the lives of 20,000 young Cameroonians affected or infected by HIV/AIDS. In line with this mission, on March 5, 2026, EFA Cameroon convened a strategic meeting with associations it helped establish to reinforce their capacity and impact.

Activity

The session which brought together representatives from AJEPS, ASSIYSGOD, ABEPSA, and AJEPS Mokolo focused on reviving activities, setting the frequency of meetings, and planning general assemblies for each association.

Key Outcomes

AJEPS: Scheduled its General Assembly for March 14, 2026, to develop a 2026 action plan.
ASSIYSGOD: Will hold its General Assembly by March 13, 2026, to finalize its action plan.
ABEPSA: Plans its General Assembly on March 12, 2026, accompanied by a 2026 action plan.
AJEPS Mokolo: Will meet on March 11, 2026, to determine the date of its General Assembly.

Challenges Identified

Membership decline due to deaths and resignations.
Lack of meeting venues for some associations.

Solutions Proposed

Technical Support: EFA Cameroon committed to assisting in reconstituting groups and proposing venues for meetings.
Membership Renewal: Each association will organize sensitization campaigns to recruit new members.
Ongoing Support: EFA reassured associations of its continued accompaniment in their activities with the continuous support of GlobalGiving.

Success Story

Impact

This activity demonstrates EFA Cameroon’s practical role in strengthening grassroots associations. By addressing challenges and offering practical solutions, these groups shall remain active and impactful in their communities. Proposed actions will ensure community sustainability and resilience.

Future Activities

Successful execution of General Assemblies in March 2026.
Development and implementation of action plans for each association.
Monitoring of membership recruitment campaigns.

Conclusion

The meeting was a reaffirmation EFA Cameroon’s mission to empower local associations of People Living With HIV/AIDS, ensuring they have the structures, support, and strategies needed to succeed in contributing to HIV/AIDS prevention. EFA Cameroon is grateful to GlobalGiving whose continuous support enables her to continue providing vital assistance, capacity building, and community engagement that strengthens health, education and development initiatives in communities across Cameroon.

OVCs' Progress Report

School Supplies Distribution

Target: OVCs of EFA Cameroon’s partner associations and some vulnerable members of the community

Brief Summary
EFA Cameroon has as mission to ameliorate the living conditions of vulnerable communities especially people affected or infected by HIV/AIDS in the Far North Region and Cameroon as a whole. Being concerned about the future of OVCs motivates the distribution of school supplies every academic year to facilitate OVCs’ access to education.
Activity
To end the 2023/2024 academic year, EFA Cameroon alongside presidents of her network of partner associations carried out a monitoring and evaluation to measure the impact her actions and performance of assisted pupils in school. Performance results showed that of the 20 OVCs assisted, 17 worked well and obtained promotion to the next level while 03 had to repeat their levels.

As they had promised to produce excellent results for the 2023/2024 academic year. The OVCs gave their all and the above results testify to their dedication this academic year and wish to continue in the same rails next academic year and thank GlobalGiving for its continual support through EFA Cameroon.

Impact
The education of OVCs has been a driving force for more tolerant and inclusive communities in the Far North Region give that it is a zone that is already plagued by a number of challenges.

Continuity
EFA Cameroon appreciates GlobalGiving for the unwavering trust and would like to touch more beneficiaries this year. There is an ongoing evaluation to establish a list of beneficiaries and with GlobalGiving’s support, EFA Cameroon will distribute school supplies and dues to OVCs and carryout sensitizations on the importance of education.
