A big problem in the public healthcare system of Pakistan is its being inaccessible especially in rural areas. The poor population living in villages far from town and cities is facing huge hurdle in accessing health service providers since there is almost no transport and communication facilities especially people living in islands and Thar Desert. In Sindh, for example, public health facilities are in appalling condition, plagued with staff absenteeism and shortage of essential medicines.
The health situation and the facilities as well are in pathetic situation in district. There is only one district headquarters hospital and three tehsil headquarter hospitals with a capacity of 50 and 80 beds respectively, 2 rural health centres, 31 basic health units and only 2 MCH centres. These health facilities can facilitate only 52% of the estimated 2010 population of the district. In district Tharparkar, only 25% pregnant women have received tetanus toxoid injections.
The mobile clinic came to be the prioritised solutions for the issues the community is facing in terms of accessing health facilities especially in emergency cases i.e. deliveries and snake bites. The mobile clinic will be stationed in one the project villages or union council centre in a way that its access to almost all the project villages is easy. There will be a lady doctor, an LHV/technician and a dispenser on board who will provide basic health facilities to most disadvantaged people.
Poor People have access the healthcare at there door step, this health on wheels will help in the saving of lives of the poor communities of the area.
