Due to insufficient funds, numerous students enrolled at tertiary institutions find it difficult to complete their education. They, therefore, resort to obtaining student loans which unfortunately does not cover the additional costs incurred during their studies. Students then end up doing odd jobs to purchase food hence their time is spent trying to earn an income rather than concentrating on their studies.
This project, in particular, allowed the organisation to provide food to 70 students studying at the Malawi University for Business and Applied Sciences. The students received the following items which would last them for a month:
5kg cream of maize;
5kg rice;
1kg soya chunks;
1kg salt;
1 litre cooking oil;
3 x tinned fish; and
1½ dozen eggs.
Since food is a constant requirement, the organisation currently provides food to 170 students on a monthly basis however new requests are regularly received.
