IsraAID in partnership with the first lady in Sierra Leone will conduct a 2 year training program that will focus on MHPSS- (Mental Health Psycho-Social Support) with the aim of building a national network of service providers.
The Ebola crisis in West Africa has had massive and devastating effects on the entire region. As of today there are approximately 7,000 Ebola reported cases in the region. The Ebola virus outbreak caused widespread stress and trauma in both countries, where families of infected patients have been completely isolated by their communities, with some areas even resorting to violence.
IsraAID will provide tools and techniques to deal with the trauma caused by the Ebola crisis. Target participants will include social workers, counselors, religious leaders and local NGO staff, effectively equipping them with a basic set of skills in the fields of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) prevention and treatment using methods such as Peer counseling and group therapy
The participants will learn practical and theoretical tools related to health education and MHPSS, and will apply them in their work to support communities affected by the Ebola crisis. Participants will be given the opportunity to manage their stress and ventilate their emotions. The participants will be able to present case studies and receive supervision, mentoring and professional guidance from the Israeli therapists.
