Under the warm winter sun, the "Infinite Possibilities Growth Project" — a drama psychology camp for rural junior high school students — was successfully held at Shidong Middle School in Shidong Town, Huaiji County, Guangdong Province. This event brought a unique psychological growth journey to local left-behind teenagers in their first year of junior high. The aim of the activity was to help rural junior high school students release their emotions, build a sense of security, and enhance their self-efficacy through drama games and performances.
One minute on stage takes ten years of practice. Though the winter camp lasted only two days, it was the result of over a year of meticulous preparation, trial classes, and exploration by two organizations. Starting from 2022, based on the personality traits and psychological needs of junior high school students, we collected and analyzed student psychological data, explored how to better assist them, and conducted pilot courses at two different junior high schools.Ultimately, we chose the drama psychology camp as a way for students to experience and learn about emotional management.
On this creative and passionate stage, 34 students with a keen interest in drama performance, guided by 10 enthusiastic and professional volunteers, bravely explored themselves and released their true emotions through a series of carefully designed drama games and scripts. The drama psychology camp was not only a feast of performing arts but also a cleansing of the soul.
At the event, students actively participated with great enthusiasm. Each of their performances was filled with genuine emotions and profound reflections, moving everyone present. The volunteers also expressed that this activity allowed them to see the resilience and beauty within the hearts of left-behind teenagers, strengthening their determination to provide help for these children.
In the world of drama, the students found a way to express themselves. They gradually released their inner pressures and confusions, through role-playing, situational simulations, and other interactive activities . Amid laughter and tears, they learned how to face life's challenges, remain resilient in adversity, and work together as a team.
As the winter camp came to a successful conclusion, the students expressed that this activity allowed them to concretely experience different emotions and understand how to better manage and regulate these emotions to face life's challenges. They look forward to more similar activities in the future, continuing to ignite the spark of life within them.
We extend our gratitude to all the caring partners who supported this project. In the future, we will carry your blessings and support to continue aiding more rural left-behind teenagers, bringing drama psychology to more places in need!
