Summary

Around 9% to 22% of people witnessing armed conflicts develop mental health conditions and are exposed to a much higher risk of suicide. This project delivers essential relief and initiates long-term recovery efforts in response to the displacement crisis. We prioritize psychosocial support to address mental health challenges faced by forcibly displaced individuals. Your contribution will have a meaningful impact on providing the necessary support during these challenging times.

Challenge

Forcibly displaced individuals face various mental health challenges. Grief deepens as homes vanish, communities change, and loved ones are lost. Adapting to new living conditions and unfamiliar surroundings adds to the struggle. The displacement results in enduring mental challenges, potentially leading to PTSD and depression due to traumatic experiences. Persistent concerns include the loss of identity and social isolation, heightened by chronic stressors.

Solution

Psychosocial support is crucial for forcibly displaced individuals, helping them overcome mental health challenges and reduce suicide risks. This intervention provides a supportive environment, addresses trauma and PTSD, and equips individuals with coping strategies. By fostering community support, promoting a sense of purpose, and empowering self-efficacy, it contributes significantly to overall mental well-being.

Long-Term Impact

Continuous assistance fosters enhanced resilience, reducing the risk of long-term negative mental health conditions such as PTSD, and depression. Community-building initiatives establish lasting social bonds, effectively addressing feelings of isolation. Additionally, by preventing secondary trauma and preserving cultural identity, psychosocial programs empower displaced individuals, enabling them to actively participate in their community and build a more sustainable and self-reliant future.
