In 2026 we launch our first expert-led workshops to help visitors understand this rare Forest's rare flora, fauna, fungi, and ecology-knowledge they can't get from the boardwalk alone. Your GivingTuesday gift makes this possible and also supports more and better photos and videos that reveal rarely seen Forest species, plus online learning tools that bring its hidden biodiversity to thousands each year. Your support helps us open this remarkable ecosystem and its stories to everyone.
Although the Pterocarpus Forest is an irreplaceable ecosystem with nearly 300 species, most visitors experience it only from the boardwalk, without access to expert knowledge, interpretive signage broad in scope, or unique, exciting visuals that reveal its hidden biodiversity. With basic materials, limited photography, and no structured in-person educational programming, people cannot fully grasp the Forest's ecological value or the urgency of protecting such a rare Caribbean wetland.
This project brings experts-arborists, ornithologists, mycologists, and ecologists-directly to the Forest, offering immersive workshops that deepen understanding in ways the boardwalk visits alone cannot. Professional photographers and videographers will capture rarely seen species, while upgraded digital tools, QR content, and web resources will give thousands year-round access to accurate, compelling educational materials that illuminate the Forest's true complexity..
This project will create a lasting foundation for environmental learning at one of Puerto Rico's rarest ecosystems. By developing expert-led workshops, professional biodiversity documentation, and high-quality digital educational tools, we will equip thousands of residents, students, and visitors with the knowledge needed to appreciate and champion this endangered wetland. Over time, this deeper understanding builds a culture of stewardship for generations to come.
