The Radhika ACT Fund has been created to honor the memory of our beloved and much missed Trustee Secretary, the late Ms. Radhika Arvindam, whom we lost to Covid in May 2021. Over two decades at ACT, she resolutely chose to "never turn away" and was unwavering in her commitment to educate and empower the disadvantaged. Her dream was to graduate more children in the sciences. This fund will seek to realise that by developing new educational models tailored to these children's needs.
Due to the pandemic, children from the urban slums of Bangalore have limited or no access to quality education. With classes going online, these children cannot afford the devices and internet charges needed to access these classes. Their schools lack funding, learning materials and quality teachers (especially for the sciences). As a result, they fall behind in school. Over time, this leads to a loss of opportunity due to their low economic status.
1. Collaborate with experts to develop, enable and accelerate experiential methods of science education tailored to their needs, including access to state-of-the-art laboratory kits 2. Cover the cost of school fees, bags, uniforms, shoes, stationery, books and other supplies 3. Bridge the digital divide by providing a tablet and monthly internet recharge amounts 4. Provide medical support, vaccines, food kits, nutritional supplements and other health supplies
1. Equip these children with an equal opportunity to graduate in the pure sciences 2. Systematic increase in literacy, numeracy and scientific temper amongst disadvantaged communities 3. Reduction in dropout rates 4. Seamless integration of the current generation of underprivileged children living below the poverty line into mainstream society 5. Overcoming learning loss and economic disadvantages
