Title: Ongoing Progress: Rainwater Catchment Activities Underway in Juba
Dear Donors and Supporters,
The South Sudan Grassroots Initiative for Development (SSGID) is pleased to share a brief progress update on our ongoing project, "Juba & Environs Rain Catchers: Health from Above."
Thanks to the generous individual contributions received through GlobalGiving, our team is currently actively implementing project activities on the ground in Juba and surrounding areas. These activities are designed to expand clean water access and improve community health resilience through rainwater harvesting systems.
The Story:Clean Water from Above: Preparing Juba for a Healthy Future
In many neighborhoods around Juba, accessing safe, reliable water has long been a daily challenge especially during heavy rains, when surface water sources easily become contaminated and cholera risks spike. For families and local health centers, water safety isn't just about convenience; it is about community health and survival.
Through the generous support of individual donors on GlobalGiving, the South Sudan Grassroots Initiative for Development (SSGID) team is currently on the ground, actively turning rainwater from a potential health hazard into a clean, life-saving resource.
Our field teams are currently carrying out site preparation, engaging community leaders, and setting up rainwater harvesting systems across targeted locations in Juba and surrounding areas. During a recent field visit, local residents shared their anticipation for the incoming systems:
"When the rain comes, we usually worry about runoff and waterborne sickness. Seeing these catchment tanks being prepared gives us hope now rain will mean clean water right at our doorstep."
By capturing clean water directly from above, this project reduces reliance on contaminated surface sources, lowers health risks, and builds long-term climate resilience. As our field operations reach completion, we look forward to sharing detailed metrics, community stories, and direct photographs from the completed sites in our full report.
