'Rainbow Kit' every month

Dear Friend,

Happy new year! Warm greetings from DDing Dong. Last weekend was Korean Lunar New Year ‘Seollal’. Wishing you a New Year filled with joy and success.

We’ve continued to support LGBTQ Youth last 3 months. In particular, ‘DDing Dong restaurant’ has been successfully held. ‘DDing Dong restaurant’ is the monthly event, sharing meals with playing and education with queer teens. Every single ‘DDing Dong restaurant’ is always full these days!

Here are some details of our activities :).

1. Successful ‘DDing Dong restaurant’

‘DDing Dong restaurant’ in November was specialized for TDoR(Transgender Day of Remember). We were reminded to make trans youth feel safe and solidarity. In December, commemorating World AIDS Day, we focused on HIV/AIDS issues. Educating various stigma and discrimination of HIV/AIDS, queer teens had talked about worries of sexual relationships which were hard to share in normal daily life.

2. Listen to the Transgenderqueer teens: about the experience at the school

One of the most important visions in DDing Dong is making the school safe for queer. Last October, there was an online meeting space for sharing the stories which are about transgenderqueer teens’ experiences in school. They told us the specific gender dysphoria moments when they’re using the toilet or locker room for PE class.

Few days ago, DDing Dong published a report ‘A Study on the Improvement of the Legal System for an Inclusive School Environment’. We will do our best to make the transgenderqueer students could be educated in the safe school environment.

3. ‘Rainbow Kit’ every month

‘Rainbow Kit’ is our montly project consisting of food and basic living supplies to LGBTQ runaway and homeless youth. By this, we could find the queer youth who are in crisis situations and connect them to constructive support. The requests from queer teens are increasing every month as well.

We prepare ‘Rainbow Kit’ with DDinga DDinga, DDing Dong’s volunteers. New DDinga DDinga for 2024 will be reruited. At the same time, we are checking the system to make sure the sustainable ‘Rainbow Kit’.

Seoul, Chuncheon, Incheon Queer Culture Festival

1. Seoul, Chuncheon, Incheon Queer Culture Festival

We participated in the Seoul, Chuncheon, and Incheon Queer Culture Festival with our booth "DDing Dong Tarot Café." We met LGBTIQ youth, greeted them happily, and offered snacks and lucky tarot cards as gifts.
We also organized a self-defense campaign, named "Enjoy the Festival Safely" to help LGBTIQ youth handle various crisis situations that may arise during the Queer Culture Festival.

2. The Revival of Dine Together Program After a 2-Year Hiatus

Dine Together Program is making a comeback after a two-year break.

Starting from July, around 20 LGBTIQ youth gather at DDing Dong Center each month to share meals and engage in various programs together.
The programs included the following: 'Handling Hate Speech,' 'Board Games Reflecting the Daily Lives of LGBTIQ Youth,' and 'Expressing Gender through Art.'
In addition to these programs, we have enjoyed HIV rights quizzes and mini-games while sitting together, sharing stories, and spending a delightful and comfortable time.

3. 2023 Employee Educational Workshop

We conducted an educational workshop aimed at employees of youth-related organizations nationwide, with the goal of enhancing their awareness of LGBTIQ rights and improving their counseling and support skills.

Participants displayed great enthusiasm for the educational programs, which spanned from fundamental topics such as understanding gender identity and sexual orientation, case studies, statistics, and small-group discussions, to more advanced subjects including HIV/AIDS rights, counseling and support for transgender youth, and counseling for parents of LGBTIQ youth.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for participants to strengthen their role as allies for LGBTIQ youth, particularly when they require assistance.

2022-2023 DDingDong Annual Report, Thank You for Your Support!

We are pleased to inform you that the annual report for the period of 2022-2023 has been released in English. Through this report, we aim to share with you the significant impact your contributions have made in the lives of LGBTQ+ youth at DDing Dong over the past year.

Thanks to your generosity, we have been able to provide vital support to countless individuals. Here are some key highlights from the past year:

Counseling Sessions: We conducted 487 counseling sessions, providing crucial emotional support to those in need.
Crisis Intervention: We offered assistance in 290 crisis situations, ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable youth.
Essential Supplies for Homeless LGBTQ+ Youth: We provided 134 individuals with necessary items to meet their basic needs.
New Counseling Cases: We welcomed 98 new individuals seeking guidance and support, demonstrating the growing reach of DDing Dong's services.

It is heartening to witness the diverse avenues through which individuals have found their way to DDing Dong. Whether it be through friends, acquaintances, teachers, parents, or even mental health professionals, we have been able to create a safe space for communication and support. This past year has been the most impactful in terms of counseling and assistance since the establishment of DDing Dong.
