Over 1000 adolescent girls have been empowered from June to date in Northern Nigeria (Kano, Niger, Kaduna, Bauchi & Plateau States). The initiative aims to improve the lives of at least 10,000 adolescent girls on menstrual hygiene & mitigating the impact of COVID19. This initiative is implemented through the coordination of the Africa Health Budget Network via a coalition of non-governmental organizations & Journalists. Young adolescent girls are been sensitized on menstrual hygiene & COVID19.
Adolescent girls especially in Northern Nigeria face challenges during menstrual period. Many could not afford to buy and use sanitary pads and resort to unhygienic methods that put their lives at risk of infections. Also, the use of face masks even the re-usable masks have been a challenge among them as they cannot afford to buy, and their parents could not also provide face masks to them. There is also general inadequate knowledge on the value of Menstrual hygiene and how to prevent the spread
The project already has empowered over 1000 adolescent girls with information, knowledge, and counselling on menstrual hygiene & mitigating the impact of COVID19. And freely distributed sanitary pads, soaps, & face masks to them. This project has and will improve the lives of adolescent girls' and ensure growth, development, healthy and prosperous lives.
The project will empower at least 10,000 adolescent girls with information, knowledge, and counselling on menstrual hygiene & COVID19 and provision of free sanitary pads, soaps, & face masks
