Do you see our broken walls? Without your help our school will close. Berakah Education Foundation needs to repair a building being used in its dilapidated condition as an early childhood learning space for 100 preschool children in an at-risk community in Pretoria, South Africa. Without repair, our school is hindered from receiving an occupancy certificate needed for registration as a partial care facility/Early Childhood Development Centre with the Department of Social Development.
Berakah operates on property owned by the organisation, but in buildings that were not inspected or approved by the City of Tshwane, thus jeopardizing the safety of the children in our care. Operating in inadequate facilities puts the organisation at substantial financial risk and prevents Early Childhood Centre registration required by South African law. This project will affect more than 100 vulnerable children who will stop receiving early childhood intervention if Berakah is closed.
Architects and builders from the Mamelodi community will be hired to repair the faulty educational building to a level that can pass inspection and thus secure the needed occupancy certificate. With the certificate, Berakah will then be able to apply for registration as an Early Childhood partial care facility as required by law, and move closer to becoming a centre of excellence in the Early Childhood Development sector.
The project will position Berakah to enlarge its capacity for educational services and support in an at-risk community of 40,000 people, making it possible for more children to rise out of poverty.
